The NODS formed in the spring of 2003 under their first name Castrati. Having played together in High School under the seminal moniker Collateral Jammage, the group has been developing and refining its sound ever since. With singer Jonathan Broeska, lead guitarist Micah Braun, bassist Isaac Simonson and Jeff Bruce on drums, the group has been playing bars, halls, showcases and events in and around Winnipeg to building critical success for the past several years. On November 1, 2005 the band released their debut album @ the West End Cultural Centre, playing to a sold-out crowd. Local radio and press reviews have been reassuring with high marks for sound and originality; the Uptown Magazine graded the album an A. The Winnipeg Sun review read: On these 10 cuts, this capable guitar-based foursome cleverly combines the raw power, quiet-load dynamics and rhythmic wallop of Nirvana with the melodic hooks and song craft of The Beatles. Then they add dashes of QOTSA's menace and Foo Fighters supersonic propulsion. Finally, they top the whole affair with big hooks, smart-ass lyrics, vocals that cross Paul McCartney with Joe Jackson and tons of harmonies to arrive at a perfect midpoint between grunge, pop, alt-rock, modern rock and plain old classic rock 'n' roll. In early 2006 the band signed with Glen Willows of Burning Circus Management, and landed local opening spots with bands such as Default. In April, they played the New Music West Festival in Vancouver to more critical acclaim. The Nods are now heading back to the studio recording tracks for their new upcoming EP. With the buzz already out there, The Nods are becoming a band of note on the local scene. Watch for them at a venue near you in 2006 and stay tuned to this site for downloads or info on shows and new releases!!!
